This two gender symbols are derived from astronomical symbols. They were first used to denote
the gender of plants by Carl Linnaeus in 1751. The symbols can indicate both, sex and/or gender.
On the left side the symbol of planet Venus for female, on the right side the symbol of the planet
Mars for male.
